Science Software -- The Big Picture

How do you get your kids interested in science, especially if you don't have fond memories of your own last chemistry class? Field trips and lab experiments were always fun, but they're a little hard to duplicate on a CD. Or so SuperKids' review teams thought, before working with this set of programs.

SuperKids recently reviewed:

ConnecTricity Power Park [for ages 7+] from NSP Company, takes students to an abandoned amusement park where with the help of a surly dinosaur and a gentle hawk, they work to develop power sources to get the park running again. It works nicely as part of a classroom unit on energy and power sources.
Nature Virtual Serengeti [for ages 6 to 12] from Grolier Interactive, is based on the “Nature” public television series, and offers kids a chance to visit and explore the African Serengeti Plain. Animal lovers and science teachers will like this program.
Dr. Brain Action Reaction [for ages 10 and up] from Knowledge Adventure produces sweaty palms and pumping adrenaline while requiring the user to apply the principles of geometry, physics, mechanics and logic to succeed.
Fisher-Price Outdoor Adventures Ranger Trail [for ages 4 to 7] from The Learning Company, takes kids on an outdoor adventure where they are encouraged to do plenty of virtual prodding, poking, uncovering and discovering.
