Product Support

This excellent preschool program shines because of its deservedly well-loved cast and simple yet compelling storyline. Based on the movie of the same name, The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland begins as Zoe asks to share Elmo's precious blue blanket. When Elmo refuses, Zoe makes a grab for it, and a tussle ensues. The blanket flies out of Elmo's hands and lands in Oscar the Grouch's garbage can. To retrieve his blanket, Elmo must venture through the Oscar's can to "Grouchland". Here, newcomers are made to feel 'unwelcome', grouches visit 'Ugly Salons' and Elmo's blanket is not easily recovered. Thank goodness Elmo can count on help from his (virtual) friends!

Educational Value
The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland is aimed at very young users, hence its educational value lies largely in its storytelling components. As preschoolers listen to the story unfold they absorb new vocabulary, spoken language nuances, and the basics of story progression. Simple activities provide early exposure to such basic computer skills as pointing, clicking and dragging. Elmo's hide and seek game develops critical thinking skills as children listen and respond to clues provided about the blanket's whereabouts. Other activities develop skills in memory, sequencing, listening and following directions, and creativity. Finally, the story itself teaches children about friendship, sharing, and acceptance.

Kid Appeal
This charming program features one of childhood's best loved characters, Sesame Street's innocent, Elmo. With his childlike presentation and open outlook on everything he encounters, Elmo has wended his way into the hearts of young and old. This software portrays him, true to character and lovable as ever. Supporting characters are likewise endearing, from the 'Bad Humor' Ice Cream Grouch, to the Stenchmen who protectively guard the dump, to Mr. Bug, the story's reluctant Judas. Similarly, Grouchland provides kids with a uniquely rich environment, filled with 'yucky' things to be explored.

Ease of Use / Install
The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland requires no installation. Navigation is simple -- not only can children progress through the story sequentially by following the arrows in each scene, but they can also access a map that allows them to jump with a click to any particular scene. Because of this option, saving a game is never an issue, and kids can skip around and replay favorite sections at will.

Best for... / Bottom-Line
Elmo in Grouchland is the perfect early program for imaginative young learners. Filled with humor and whimsy, it's practically guaranteed to be a favorite!
