Product Support

All the Right Type Three offers basic keyboarding instruction in a simple but effective multi-level format. Students begin by learning correct finger reach, technique and posture in a series of interactive tutorials found in the "Learning Lab". Each of these lessons is then reinforced in the "Practice Pavillion", where users can choose standard drills or the optional game mode. Further development occurs in the "Skill Building" area, which features speed and accuracy drills for each lesson. Students can test their progress in the "Testing Center", which tracks the user's speed, overall accuracy and problem areas, and reports the results in the "Records Library". Finally, the "Word Processing Plaza" opens a word processing application to allow students to create and save their own documents. The default word processor is Simple Text for Macintosh users, and Word Pad for Windows users. This default can be easily changed from the File Menu options.

Educational Value
All the Right Type is structured to be used in a variety of classroom situations. Teachers should purchase the version that best suits their needs. There are three types of installations offered: Single, Lab Pack and Network. The School Edition can be installed on one computer, the Lab Pack Edition can be installed on up to five computers, and the Site License Edition can be installed on a network.

Regardless of the edition chosen, multiple student files can be maintained by the teacher. The only real limitation here is the size of the computer hard drive. A "Maintenance" area allows teachers to customize lessons, and monitor and evaluate student progress. Creating customized drill files is simple, and allows instructors to incorporate key curriculum vocabulary in student drills.

Kid Appeal
This is a no-nonsense program. Users immediately begin to type, following a program of lessons and graduated drills. There are a few nods to entertainment including races, fireworks displays, puzzles, trophies and printable awards, but for the most part students focus on the task at hand and the intrinsic rewards of a lesson learned and a job well-done. Contrary to what one might think, our student reviewers applauded the program's simplicity.

Ease of Use / Install
Installation of this program can be fairly complex, depending on what version is being installed. Fortunately, the associated User's Manual is quite detailed and support is readily accessible from the Ingenuity Works website.

Ingenuity Works advised us that a bug has been discovered in this software. If a teacher deletes a student record, there is a possibility that the class records will also be deleted.

To remedy this problem, users should go to the Ingenuity Works website and click on "Support" from the side menu bar. This support page includes an All The Right Type v3.0 Support Alert link. Clicking on the link will take the user to a page with information on downloading a fix for the the bug.

Best for... / Bottom-Line
Learning to type requires a little training, and then practice, practice and more practice. With All the Right Type Three students get both, along with valuable feedback. We recommend it for mature students who seek a no-nonsense typing program.

See SuperKids' comparisons with other typing software titles, and the Buyers Guide for current market prices of the PC and Mac versions.
