Product Support

Bats of North America is a text-like CD covering four basic areas: Bats and You, Biology, Myths, and North American Species. The program also contains a "concentration" type matching game.

The user selects a section, then pages through a hyper-linked text, illustrated with photographs, drawings, and a small selection of animations. For example, the Biology section includes descriptions of the physics of flight and echolocation.

Educational Value
This program could be used as a part of, or as a supplement to a sixth to ninth grade course covering mammals.

Kid Appeal
Batsof North America is not an 'edutainment' program. This is a curriculum-style text. Viewed as such, it is well-written and relatively engaging. Slow page changes on older machines, however, were a tremendous detriment to an enthusiastic response by our student testers.

Ease of Use / Install
The program installed quickly and easily on our Windows test machine, and was easy to navigate. Unfortunately, running on a machine that greatly exceeded the minimum system requirments, still provided a marginally satisfactory experience, due to very slow page changes.

Best for... / Bottom-Line
This program is best suited for classroom use or course supplementation. We would also highly recommend using it on no less than a Pentium 166 class machine, running Windows 95.

See SuperKids' comparisons with other Science software titles, and the Buyers Guide for current market prices of this PC-only program.
