Product Support

Backyard Soccer MLS Edition by Humongous continues the tradition established in Backyard Baseball only with a soccer motif.  Sunny Days and Earl Grey provide the color commentary and meet the same neighborhood kids. This time, they're teamed up with recognizable animated kid versions of Major League Soccer and U.S. Womens players to continue the fun on 8 different fields, from Tin Can Alley to Cement Gardens.

Backyard Soccer MLS Edition is similar to Backyard Baseball - the user must select the teams, fields, formations, uniforms, a pick-up game or an entire season, etc. Three difficulty levels exist. Background chatter, sounds, music, and commentary can be turned on or off.

Educational Value
Buy this program for its entertainment value not its educational impact! Sometimes a kid just has to have fun.

Kid Appeal
Backyard Soccer MLS follows the same formula as Backyard Baseball.  None of our testers were disappointed to see the same neighborhood kids.  In fact, they were delighted and couldn't wait to kick off.   Bizarre novelty kick options appear occasionally to add to the fun. When asked if they thought it was as good as Backyard Baseball there was some hesitation in responses. "I don't know...", "I think I like the other (baseball) better...". Clearly it depends if one has a preference for baseball or soccer. If not first place, Backyard Soccer MLS comes in a very close second.

Ease of Use / Install
Initially our Windows ME test machine experienced problems with this program.   Installation was smooth but once play began the program would close itself down whenever the ball went out of play, a goal was scored , or sometimes erratically after 1-2 minutes of play. The Humongous Sports website provides a patch for the problem.

When we were unable to activate the appropriate patch from their website, the HumongousTechnical Support Team came to the rescue. They were very attentive, persistent, polite, and patient.  Most importantly, they solved the problem.  Children can easily use and enjoy this program without adult intervention.

Best for... / Bottom-Line
Children up to 13 will enjoy this game either by themselves or in small groups. And similar to its baseball counterpart, there is nothing offensive in Backyard Soccer MLS Edition, just good old-fashioned fun.
