Math. After reading, it's the one subject every parent wants their children to like, and master. Yet many parents view the subject with some trepidation, based on their own not-always-stellar experiences in school. Can math software help your child develop an interest and skills? SuperKids looked at four programs this month that claim to do both.

Interactive Math Journey [for ages 5 to 9] from The Learning Company is one of the first math programs SuperKids has reviewed that actually teaches math concepts, as well as provide math facts drills. This program is best for children interested in math, but not yet proficient in all the subjects covered.

Logical Journey of the Zoombinis [for ages 8 to 12] from Broderbund is an exceptionally well-designed program that will clearly develop critical thinking skills. Numbers and arithmetic operations do not play a role here. Instead, this program focuses on the logic elements of math. This program is best for children with patience, curiosity, and an interest in problem-solving.

123 Foo [for ages 3 to 8] from O'Connor House Software consists of a collection of colorful games and repetitive activities designed to introduce young children to numbers, quantities, shapes and patterns. This program is best-suited for younger children just learning to associate numbers and quantities.

Unifix Software [for ages 4 to 10] from Didax Media is an electronic version of the popular cubes used in classrooms. Designed as an unstructured toolkit, this program is best-suited for use under the guidance of a teacher or parent.
