Proxy Parent Value
"Proxy parent value" is the SuperKids measure for a software package's likelihood of being interesting and useful to a child working independently, over the long term. In other words, is this a piece of software a child can immerse themselves in repeatedly, without mom or dad hovering nearby? ADAM: The Inside Story was scored highly on the independent activity scale by our reviewers, and almost as highly on the long-term use question. Our reviewers felt that the older the child, the greater the propensity for independent use. Will your child come back to the software repeatedly? That depends on their interest in this subject, and how quickly they can learn and remember facts.

Parent Friendly
ADAM is relatively parent friendly, if you're used to a mouse, icons, and a menu bar. For example, if you don't read the manual, you might not realize what the book icon represents, or that there are a lot of really valuable animations hidden under a menu button. But these are all pretty simple things to find and use. Odds are, your child will figure them out more quickly than you do, and won't even come to ask for help. One warning: if you're the type of parent who doesn't want his child to see anatomical drawings that include the reproductive organs, make sure you do the install and select the "modesty" fig leaf option.

Purchase Value
Would our reviewers buy it again? Yes, for an academically inclined child who likes to learn by reading and listening. As one parent put it, "ADAM is valuable for a specific age group and a specific interest area. It is simple, yet uses some language that may be difficult for younger children to understand." This is a very good package for a child who might want to go into the medical field.
